Overview

The University of Derby is an ambitious, innovative and modern university focused on real world learning. Located in the heart of the UK there is no better place to explore the rest of England in your free time. Our main campus is in the city of Derby and is easy to get to by road, rail and air. London is 90 minutes away by train. Derby is a thriving multicultural city and an exciting place to learn and experience university life.

All students participating in exchange programs are eligible to apply for a grant from the Office of International Affairs of up to $1,000 toward airfare costs.


Academics

The University of Derby exchange is well-suited for the students from almost all Longwood majors. For a listing of coursed offered visit University of Derby webpage.

Participation in any credit-bearing study abroad program through Longwood will waive General Education Goal 9. 


Eligibility

This exchange program is open to all majors. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.


Housing

Students will reside in Residence Halls alongside UK and other international students.


Program Costs

Students on exchange programs pay regular Longwood tuition and fees for the semester they will be abroad. Additional costs include airfare, room and board, passport, any required visas, books, and personal expenses.

Longwood students also pay a $250 non-refundable study abroad administrative fee upon acceptance.


Scholarships and Grants

The Office of International Affairs offers two scholarships:

  • Lancers Abroad Scholarship: up to $500 for short-term programs or $900 for semester programs
  • Presidential Scholarship: up to $2,000 for semester-long programs in which participants are studying in non-Anglophone countries (generally reserved for foreign language majors, but students taking courses in the host language are also encouraged to apply).

Visa Requirements

The Department of State keeps up-to-date information about visa required for entry into The United Kingdom. Students are responsible for their own visa applications and any related expenses. Contact Dr. Emily Kane to get started.
