Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship for Study Abroad in a Non-Anglophone Country is designed to encourage Longwood University students to further their second language acquisition by studying abroad in a non-English-speaking country. Students who plan to study abroad in a non-Anglophone country through a Longwood-approved credit-bearing program are encouraged to apply for a Presidential Scholarship.

In order to be eligible for the Presidential Scholarship:

  • You must be a current Longwood University Student.
  • You must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • You must submit a 500-word essay in English.
  • You must be participating in a semester or year length program in a non-anglophone country.
  • Preference may be given to students who have a current FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office.

  • There are five Presidential Scholarships of $2,000 each.
  • Preference will be given to MOLA majors, as studying abroad is a requirement of the major.
  • Scholarships will then be awarded to students from other majors only if funds remain.
  • This scholarship cannot be combined with other CGE or Cormier Honors scholarships unless special permission is granted by the Executive Director of the Center for Global Engagement.

Honors students are eligible for separate funding through the Cormier Honors College. Contact Jessi Znosko to get started.

Priority deadlines for submitting scholarship questionnaires is September 15 for spring semester and February 15 for fall semester. Scholarship applications submitted after the deadline are not guaranteed consideration.
