Program Description:

Lancers Abroad Correspondent Scholarship
 

The Office of International Affairs encourages students to apply for the Lancers Abroad Correspondent Scholarship, which will be awarded to selected study abroad participants who document and share their study abroad experience online before, during, and after their program. There are a limited number of awards worth up to $500 for short-term or $900 for semester-long programs.
 

Scholarship requirements

Selected correspondents must:

  • Propose and carry out a Correspondent Plan that details how they will share their experience abroad in photos, videos, and writing via various social media platforms. It should address how they plan to:
    • Post to existing or newly created accounts and hashtags (and the estimated audience reach of each platform they will use),
    • Share preparations for and reflections upon their experience before and after their program, in addition to their time abroad,
    • Meet the challenges they may face in accessing social media abroad.
  • Sign a scholarship agreement outlining the conditions of the award.
  • Attend a required pre-departure training session in late April.
  • Follow content standards set by the Office of International Affairs.
  • Submit a 500-word narrative report of (and with relevant screenshots from) their correspondent experience by the end of the term following their return from studying abroad.
  • Participate in the fall Study Abroad Fair (typically the second or third Thursday of class in the fall term) and/or International Education Week in the spring semester (typically in early April) or other outreach events as approved by the Director of Study Abroad.
Eligibility
 

In order to be eligible for the Lancers Abroad Correspondent Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a current Longwood University Student.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
  • Submit a Correspondent Plan as outlined above.
  • This scholarship cannot be combined with other CGE scholarships unless special permission is granted by the Executive Director of the Center for Global Engagement.  It can be combined with Cormier Honors scholarships.

Priority deadlines for completing scholarship questionnaires is September 15 for winter or spring and February 15 for summer or fall terms. All scholarship decisions will be made after the application deadline.
