Program Overview

Spend your semester living and learning in Ghana, a vibrant West African nation celebrated for its rich history, cultural diversity, and significant contributions to pan-Africanism. Designed for students from all academic backgrounds, this program takes place in Legon, a suburb of the Ghanian city Accra, the ideal place to earn credits toward your degree while immersing yourself in Ghanaian culture.

When class is in session, you’ll choose from a unique mix of classes you need to move forward in your degree progression, as well as Ghana-centered courses like Ghanaian Language for Beginners (Twi), History of Ghana, Culture and Reproductive Health, Politics of Ghana Since Independence, Atlantic Crossings, Traditional Dance, among others. You may also choose from local university courses at the University of Ghana, which you may combine with CIEE courses offered at the CIEE Legon center.

Outside the classroom, you’ll have every opportunity to participate actively in Legon's local community. Immerse yourself in optional credit-baring internships (in English), co-curricular and extracurricular activities, and exciting excursions to renowned cultural attractions. Don’t stop there; round out your study abroad adventure by joining off-the-beaten-path trips to appreciate Ghana’s picturesque beaches, lush forests, and deep-rooted history.
